Index Librorum
Prohibitorum

List of Prohibited Books
by the Catholic Church

The Index included a number of authors whose works are widely read today in most leading universities. They are now considered as the foundations of science, e.g. Kepler and Galileo's works. Charles Darwin's works were never put on the Index - go figure? Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf was also not included on the list.

Other noteworthy intellectuals on the Index were Jean Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Voltaire, Denis Diderot, Victor Hugo, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, André Gide, Immanuel Kant, David Hume, René Descartes, Francis Bacon, John Milton, John Locke, Benedict Spinoza, Blaise Pascal, Hugo Grotius, and Saint Faustina Kowalska.

It should also be noted that the works of some saints were included in the index - St. Faustina Kowalska.
